- Start from needs and circumstances, then decide which option the facts support.
- Name the risks you are managing, including what you would not recommend, then choose the matching answer.
- Practise under time so reading the case and eliminating weak options is automatic.
What is ASEW/ASSC actually testing?
The paper is a two-hour exam with six case studies, each followed by ten linked multiple-choice questions. It is looking for an adviser who can read a customer, pick a suitable direction, and identify the best option from the facts. It does not mark a written recommendation.
Build a short skeleton you can reuse while you read: circumstances, needs, options considered, most suitable answer, risks, next steps. Use it to eliminate distractors, not to draft an essay.
How should example papers fit in?
Sit them after you have covered the syllabus once. Time yourself. Then mark against the customer facts and your own skeleton, not against a feeling that the answer “sounded right”.
- One paper a week in the last month
- Choose the most suitable multiple-choice answer from the customer facts, even if you already know the product
- Keep a list of phrases the question used that you missed
